Tea Tree Oil - Melaleuca Alternifolia

Over 300 types of Tea Tree exist, but only one has medicinal properties: the Melaleuca alternifolia.

It belongs to the family of the "Myrtacae" and originally its leaves were used by the Australian Aborigines as a folk remedy.

In 1925 the scientist Dr. Arthur Penfold discovered the oil’s qualities and today it is steam distilled from the tree’s foliage and has become very popular in the cosmetic and medicinal market.

Its anti-fungal and anti-septic properties make it a good "medicine" against athletes foot, acne, septic wounds, dandruff and even head lice and ticks.

A lot of cosmetic companies include it in their face and hair products, because it penetrates the skin’s layers positively.
